Between the Sheets: Olivia Brown

Between the Sheets: Olivia Brown

Some of the best things in life happen Between the Sheets… and that includes good conversation, so each month we’re asking you to share what makes you Sleep, Feel and Live Good.

This week we chat with Olivia from Hobart, Tasmania. A talented photographer at Olivia Brown Photography, and all round creative, she beautifully records the magic happening at weddings and events all over Tasmania. She’s also a mum to her two boys, Hunter (8) and Remi (21 months) and a furbaby - so we just had to see how someone so incredibly busy starts and ends each day, and she was kind enough to answer a few questions.

Where's the most memorable place you've woken up?

This makes me feel like I haven’t travelled enough, but if I had to choose something… a recent trip to Boat Harbour on Tasmania’s North West Coast. I went off the grid ‘glamping’ on my own… not realising that I was going to be completely own my own to the point that the owners locked the gate and gave me the key…  So I was very paranoid if I heard a car or another tent unzipping, then I feared it was the beginning of a Stephen King Novel… eeekkk!   But after a bottle of red wine and a very comfy bed the zzz’s kicked in. I did feel a little guilty leaving the whole family behind, however I must admit it was beautiful to wake up at 6 am, and for once is was not because the kids woke me, but because it was incredibly bright. Not a care in the world and off I went on the next adventure… the search for food!

Describe the best sleep you've ever had...

I think I’m still waiting for it…  or maybe they are the nights where I just sleep, no dreaming, no kids waking me and I wake up and think ‘WOW! I don’t think I even moved last night, I just slept’.

What's the first thing you do when you open your eyes in the morning?

Seriously… roll over and close them again and snuggle in.  Some days you just should stay in bed and let the world pass! Apart from that I wait for Scott to get up and turn the generator on so we can all have showers, I can’t function without a good shower. I know living off the grid has its ups and downs, especially in our Tassie winter!

What's the last thing you do before you go to sleep?

Turn the Internet off so I don’t get messages in the night that will wake and distract me.

What's the one thing you've always secretly wanted to do but life just sort of keeps getting in the way?

Travel.  I just never really got around to it, which is terribly depressing. My partner has been all over the world and I have only been as far as Bali… once, over 12 years ago! The sad thing is I am now limited on the places I can visit after having an auto immune response to a vaccine in 2015 which almost ended my career as a photographer. I think I will just have to take the dive and book something in and do it!  Although I do get to travel all over Tasmania with my work so I get to see a lot of our beautiful state.

If you could choose anywhere in the world to sleep, where would it be?

This is hard… maybe somewhere in France…  good food, good wine and great company!
